It doesn’t seem that long ago that I mad this movie my 200th video review. Nearly 800 video and 200 DVD reviews later, I get to sit down and watch what I consider to be a classic adult film on DVD. Given the VCA track record for quality DVD transfers, I would say that this John Leslie masterpiece has a really good chance of being granted instant classic in this format as well. For those of you who may have seen Leslie’s ‘The Chameleon’, this movie makes a big deal about not being a sequel to the Torri Welles/Tom Byron/Victoria Paris film. Instead it takes some of the same shape shifting backbone and expands on it with Ashlyn Gere, Rocco Siffredi and Deirdre Holland taking over the lead roles and carrying this story driven, moody feature.
Ashlyn brings here band of pretty people to one of their favorite haunts. Blocking the doorway is a babbling Tim Lake. Rather than pushing him aside, Ashlyn has one of her girls, Fawn Miller take care him. Ashlyn Gere is always hot, so no one should be surprised by her here, however both Deirdre Holland and PJ Sparxx are hotter than ever in this movie. With John Leslie at his very best and Ashlyn Gere in Hall of Fame mode, Chameleons is adult movie making at its finest.
John Leslie’s The Tease come close to becoming one of the greats: an adult film with style, story and passionate sex. Although it falls a little short of that goal, there is no denying that it is a very erotic film, filled with the kind of fantasies most men and women have about each other, sprinkled with a dose of voyeurism and a touch of exhibitionism, and overflowing with some of the most beautiful women of classic porn, most notably the sexy Selena Steele and the alluring Ashlyn Gere.
Randy West stars as a man who is hired to be a ghost writer about the sexual experiences of a wealthy woman, played by Lauren Hall. The movie is told in flashback, as the opening scene finds Randy watching a three-way between Rayne, Randy Spears and Marc Wallice. We spend the rest of the movie looking back at the events that lead to Randy witnessing this three-way.
It turns out that Randy Spears is Randy West’s best friend. (At this point in the movie, I am already feeling very Randy! Sorry, couldn’t pass that one up!) Spears introduces West to Lauren, who wants West to write a story about her erotic escapades. West immediately is turned on by Lauren, but Lauren claims that he can’t have her sexually until after thirty days. West agrees, but he knows it is going to be hard to keep his libido in control.
Once he moves into Lauren’s mansion, however, Randy’s libido is quickly diverted toward the beautiful Selena Steele. West fantasizes about Selena with Peter North, and he watches the two make out on a bed while he wishes he was in on the action. This is, of course, due to the fact that Randy doesn’t want Lauren to catch him and he doesn’t want to get caught by anyone else. However, even though the lighting makes sense to the plot of the movie, some of the action is a little difficult to see and enjoy because of the lighting.
The rest of the movie concerns whether Randy is going to get to finally have sex with Lauren, or if she’ll find out what he has been up to with Selena and change her mind about being with him. The question is resolved by movie’s end, but the story is not taken much farther than that. We never find out about the book Randy is working on or who Randy winds up with (between Selena and Lauren).
Despite the fact that the conclusion to The Tease seems a bit rushed, it is still a great classic adult film which I do not hesitate in highly recommending. For starters, the video and audio on this DVD are pristine. The movie looks like it was filmed last week, and is so good in quality, it looks far superior to a lot of DVDs I have watched that were produced this year. The features are a little on the slim side, but I doubt there were many relevant bonus materials still available to put on the DVD, although some cast biographies would have been a nice addition.
One final note, in closing. This DVD should be looked at by all studios and companies who are either looking at releasing some of their classics on DVD, or perhaps don’t think it is worth the trouble. I don’t know if VCA was lucky and had a really good print from which to make this DVD, or if they took exceptional means to make the transfer, but this movie looks and sounds fantastic! I didn’t detect even the slightest hint of grain or wear in any of the film’s 82 minute running time. VCA does both the industry and these performers proud by producing a fantastic looking disc that can be treasured for years to come.
If only all classic films could be given the care that The Last Resort has been given by VCA in its transfer to DVD! When you pop this baby into your DVD player, you are going to think it was filmed last week rather than ten years ago. The picture is incredibly sharp, near flawless in fact, and the audio is fairly crisp as well. The only real downside of this DVD is that there is not much in the way of bonus materials, but other than that, this is certainly one of the better classic releases ever to hit DVD.
The Last Resort features some of the biggest stars of the late 80’s and early 90’s, and the action starts off with a scene between Randy West and Michelle Monroe. Yes, adult film may have seemed a bit cheesier as far as plot and sets go in the classic days, but one of the benefits of the older stuff is that you don’t have to wait ten or more minutes for the participants to switch locations in a sex scene. While modern porn sex scenes may take up to twenty minutes to complete, and only offer us on the average of five different couplings, these older films seem to almost have twice as many sex scenes and are quick to keep the action moving, lest the viewer get tired of seeing one position or another. There are a total of eight different scenes in The Last Resort, and like a lot of classic porn movies, you are not always treated to a cumshot or even intercourse in several of the scenes. Back in the old days (okay, 1990 isn’t that long ago, but in the history of porn, it’s a long time!) directors understood the value of the “tease” when making their movies.
After the opening scene, which really doesn’t have a lot to do with the rest of the movie, other than to introduce Rayne’s character at the end of the sequence, we are introduced to Randy Spears’ character, who is taking Rayne with him on a vacation with his fiancee (who we will soon find out is played by porn great Ashlyn Gere) at a resort. Once Randy and Rayne get to the resort (which I believe is the same house that was used in The Tease, which may have been filmed during the same time this movie was, since both movies feature almost exactly the same cast), Randy teams up with Ashlyn for some hot action in their room. Randy and Ashlyn may very well be the best actor and best actress ever in the adult business, so their scenes are particularly fun to watch since the viewer doesn’t get bored before or after the sex.
Marc Wallice is on hand for the next two scenes, as he takes on raven-haired Madison down in the kitchen, and then goes upstairs to Rayne’s room for a quick blowjob. The scene between Marc and Rayne is perhaps the only one that is disappointing in the entire movie, as she isn’t even able to bring him to orgasm, and Marc has to jerk himself off to finish the job.
Things lighten up a bit as Joey Silvera shows up in perhaps the ultimate of all the goofy roles he has been required to play in his career, this time playing a chef who can barely speak English. Silvera is required to wear a chef’s hat and apron through all his scenes, and pretty much act like a foreign version of Forrest Gump. He gets to give Madison a little missionary action in the kitchen, but takes off before cumming.
The next scene in the movie was easily my favorite, as it starts off with Ashlyn being visited in her room by a very sexy maid, played by the beautiful Selena Steele. After a little lesbian licking between the girls, Tom Byron shows up as a telephone repairman who is quickly drawn into a threesome with the two women. Ashlyn helps Tom dump his load across Selena’s ass, and then licks up the excess from his cock. It’s a really hot scene, and one that may require you to finish the rest of the movie at a later date because you may be out of ammo yourself after watching the scene!
While his fiancee is fooling around upstairs, Randy is downstairs looking for the kitchen staff when the beautiful Lauren Hall comes in and starts flirting with him. The two windup heading back to her room, where it at first looks like Randy is going to get to fuck Lauren. However, Lauren’s boyfriend, played by Peter North, shows up and the smooth-talking Randy convinces them to let him watch. So we get a scene where Randy is sitting nearby jerking-off, while Peter and Lauren go at it on a bed. The funny part of this scene is the conclusion, after Peter cums on her ass, where Lauren goes over to Randy and tells him his has ten seconds to cum before she is kicking him out, and then proceeds to give him a countdown!
The final scene is a short one between Rayne and Joey Silvera which is important to the plot of the movie, but I personally could have done without, only because it is a bit of a letdown after the two very hot sequences that came before it.
With Lauren Hall, Ashlyn Gere and Selena Steele, you’re basically getting three of porn’s hottest stars ever in one movie. And I’m sure female fans are also going to appreciate the presence of Randy Spears and Peter North. With a pristine transfer, above average audio and a great collection of some very hot sex scenes, The Last Resort is one of the best, if not the best, classic adult film to hit the DVD format.
