LOS ANGELES — A new tell-all book about the life of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner includes a story about how he almost choked to death on a sex toy.
The story, which was reported in the National Enquirer, came from interviews Hefner did with author Steven Watts an upcoming book, “Mr. Playboy: Hugh Hefner and the American Dream.”
CHICAGO — The Chicago Sun-Times reported that actor Robert Downey Jr. is Playboy founder Hugh M. Hefner’s choice to play him in a planned movie biography that could start shooting in summer 2009.
According to the Sun-Times, Hefner took a liking to the actor after seeing the recent hit film “Iron Man,” admiring his humor and skill in showing his vulnerability.
NEW YORK — Old-school adult brands are branching out into vanilla markets to make money and attract mainstream traffic and coverage.
One of the brands in question is Penthouse, whose acquisition of social-networking company Various Inc. last December has expanded the company’s tent to cover religious couples and caught the interest of Newsweek.com.
